Free "Yellow-Page" Directories

For years, people turned to the Yellow Pages to find business services. They still turn to business directories but today they frequently do their search online. As a notary public or notary signing agent, you may be familiar with directories just for notaries but don't overlook the generic ones where you can frequently add your contact info for free. Many allow only the basics but you can beef up your plain-vanilla listing by including your web address as a live link. Having a web address in your listing says you're a serious professional and gives you an edge against other listings without live links.

Free directories may ask for your credit card info to verify your identity so make sure there are no charges involved. Also, after you post your information, a sales person may call to sell you upgrades. You can just say "no." You might be added to their email list, too, but you can unsubscribe.

Here are some of the top generic business directories where you can add a listing for free with a live link:

  • SuperPages.com by Verizon. Select "Add or Edit a Business," in the footer at bottom of page.
  • Google Local - The most popular search tool on the Internet
  • Yahoo Local. Great place to post a basic listing for free with a live link to your page! FYI—Yahoo searches show results from Yahoo Local at the top of the page.
  • AOL Yellowpages - AOL's info handled by a "list" company - Scroll down to "How do I add..."
  • MerchantAmerica.com. You build a mini web page to include in their directory. (Thanks to Barbara Linker, our February 06 Featured Notary, for sharing this resource.)
  • MagicYellow.com allows contact info for free but you can't include a live link without paying for an upgrade. Still it's a good place to have contact info.
  • A few search-engine type directories: SearchSight.com, Search-O-Rama.com, SearchWarp.com.
  • A mortgage directory where you can post for free in their Notary Public section: Lending Universe. Places high in Google search results. NOTE: The web address is automatically filled in with the LendingUniverse address. REPLACE that address with your GoGetNotary web page address or web site address.
  • Thinking about a blog? ActiveRain.com - FREE blog account. Places high in Google search results. Be sure to include your GoGetNotary.com web page address in the Website URL field of your profile.

Links are fixed PLUS added one
Thanks, Tim, for pointing out the outdated links. They're hard to keep up with. I think they're all correct now plus I added ActiveRain.com

Wonderful leads for free marketing !
I worked my way through most of your list -- it takes several minutes per site. Also, some of them are now hiding the links for free listings in different places than you mentioned. Be prepared to spend some time doing this. Of course, if you don't want to spend some time on marketing and free listings for your business, you should probably go back to being a wage slave for The Man. ( 8)

Sharon, THANK YOU for sharing this list ! KUDOS!

Famous Quotes

Part of the issue of achievement is to be able to set realistic goals, but that's one of the hardest things to do because you don't always know exactly where you're going, and you shouldn't.
